Lovett Avenue

Lovett Lane at Captain O’Neal Drive

The private homes along this picturesque shady lane are typical homes of the summer residents who spent only a few months each year in Daphne.  These Bay Homes are specially adapted for optimal ventilation and flood prevention.  To maximize ventilation by capturing the trade winds, many of these homes feature large full-length front and back porches (now, frequently enclosed), tall ceilings, large floor-length windows, a central hall with large front and rear entrances, and second floor dormers.  For safety from flooding, these homes were built either on a high bluff overlooking the bay, or on stilts.
