Arthur Manci Building, c1924

1745 Main Street

Erected in early 1920 by Frank Manci, this building was later owned and operated by his son, Arthur (“Buster”) Manci.  Although an exceptional student, Buster had to leave school as an adolescent to work on his father’s farm. With little formal education, Buster was reputed for his exceptionally good business acumen.  Armed with good common sense and diligence, he very successfully cultivated a large farm, established several businesses, served on bank boards, and served as mayor of Daphne for 13 consecutive years (1951-1964). The widow of Arthur Manci, Avis Leo, recently renovated this building.  Avis, a woman of remarkable perseverance, was nicknamed “Tootsie” because “she is so cute”.
